People were bringing little children to him, for him to touch them. The disciples scolded them, but when Jesus saw this he was indignant and said to them,
'Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. In truth I tell you, anyone who does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.'
(Mark 10 13-15)
Children and families play a large part in the life of Sacred Heart Parish, and all ages are welcomed.
Firstly, we acknowledge that younger ones can sometimes be restless and make noises...
Bring your younger ones to sit near the front - let them see what's happening rather than just seeing the backs of the adults in front.
Big print mass leaflets are available so that the Mass can be followed more easily.
We have religious story books at the back of church for younger children.
There is a toilet accessible from the porch at the back of the Church.
On certain Sundays we have Liturgy of the Word for Children during Sunday Mass.
Without a Catholic School in the parish we have an active "Gift of Faith" programme with a variety of sessions held regularly throughout the year.
We make active use of The Wednesday Word family time leaflet, for children and their parents, where a ‘word’, inspired by the coming Sunday’s Gospel, is suggested for families to talk about in the home.
On some Sundays, children help proclaim the message of the Gospel through acting.
Older children and teenagers are encouraged to take an active part; serving on the altar, becoming readers, taking up the Offertory gifts, joining in playing music at Mass, helping with refreshments after Mass; anything to make use of their gifts and talents.
National Youth Sunday on The Feast of Christ the King is always a big youth celebration with lots of active youth involvement in the liturgy and the music.
